Relocatable Modular Workforce Housing
Location: Chipman, NB
Project Duration: 3 months
The Relocatable Modular Workforce Housing project is a purpose‑built facility designed to support seasonal workers in a remote, camp‑based environment. With a total footprint of approximately 1,344 sq. ft.
Designed to complement its surroundings, the structure features a warm, rustic exterior with clapboard wood siding, allowing it to blend seamlessly into the natural landscape while maintaining the performance benefits of modular construction. Inside, the building includes a fully equipped kitchen, washroom facilities, and a large central gathering space, creating a comfortable and functional environment for occupants.
Built off‑site reduced construction complexity at the remote location. The building was installed on a helical pile foundation, providing a stable, long‑term solution while still allowing for future relocation if needed.
The use of modular construction was key to overcoming the logistical challenges of building in a remote area. By completing the majority of construction off‑site, the project reduced the need for on‑site labour, minimized material transport, and ensured a reliable, efficient build process.
This project highlights how modular solutions can deliver cost‑effective, relocatable housing in remote environments—combining durability, efficiency, and thoughtful design to support workforce accommodation needs. This project won an award for Relocatable Modular Workłorce Housing under 10,000 sq. ft. from MBI in 2019.
“I have never witnessed such EFFICIENCY in my entire life. All we needed to do was move in once everything was finished.”
